Yes, we can climb Humanity’s “wealth pyramid”, but is this all to life?!
Opinion from the Internet about “moving up” in society:
It is possible to move up in Human society’s pyramid. It takes a lot of working hard and smart, but for example, we went up to the upper-middle class from a very lower middle class.
It is up to each individual's choice. Do you want to be really rich? Do what it takes to become a plastic surgeon. Do you just want to live an average comfortable life? Become a CPA.
I understand what you are saying and it is true. The question is if that is all to life, to consider “life’s ladder” about who is rich who is average, who is poor?
Does it look like wealth and power make us happy? I am not a hypocrite, I do not denounce a comfortable, pleasant life, after all, I am an orthopedic surgeon with a good job and I can afford a very nice, comfortable life for myself and for my family. And I am not a “leftist, communistic type” either.
But can chasing wealth, copying the life of the rich and famous, consuming what celebrities consume make us happy?! Especially in a time when our previous life built on consumption, blindly following the values, aspirations, goals and the consumer society is collapsing and it will never come back?
Of course, we all need our healthy, comfortable, natural necessities. But at the moment we do not even know what they are, what available resources are since we are all chasing what they tell us to chase, although even those who manipulate us do not know what they want and they do not look happy or satisfied!
What I try to say is that we need to fundamentally re-evaluate life and its meaning, purpose, as the rapid changes, the inevitable socio-economic crisis will force us to change anyway. It is much better if we do it purposefully, consciously, knowing why and how we need to change.
