Would the world become better if we all became superheroes?

Question from the Internet:

“Do you think the world would be better if we did have actual superheroes like Marvel? Or do you think that would make things worse?”

The answer will come naturally when we start to understand the world we live in.

We keep talking about a global and interconnected world, but we do not really feel yet what this actually means. In truth, our world — within the fully and mutually integrated natural system — is so interconnected and interdependent that, in effect, we are all but single cells of the same living organism.

So the question is: in such a fully integrated and interdependent system, individual superheroes or selfless, mutually responsible, and mutually complementing cooperation is more effective and useful?

From our inherently egocentric, subjective, and individualistic point of view, we like superheroes, and we all would like to be them. We also think that human history and development are driven by unique individuals, outstanding heroes, and villains of history and contemporary society.

But our inherent viewpoint is wrong. Our sense of independent individualism and individual uniqueness for the sake of the ego is an illusion. Our truly “superhuman” achievement comes when we can selflessly and unconditionally serve the whole system above and against our inherent nature. Our individual uniqueness is recognized and expressed through this selfless service of the whole when we find and fulfill that special, irreplaceable, and crucially important role in the system only we can fulfill.

This is when we become real-life “superheroes,” unique beings who could transcend and overcome their inherent nature in order to become what they are expected to become, healthy cells in humanity’s living body that is also an integral part of nature’s system.
