Why do we need to constantly prove ourselves?

Question from the Internet:

“Why do some people go to great lengths to prove a point?”

We go to great lengths to prove a point because we want to prove ourselves to and above others.

We are all born with a 100% egocentric and subjective nature and perception. From our own point of view, we are always right while others are wrong. Our self-esteem, our self-measurement, is based on comparing ourselves to others, and the higher and better we feel compared to others, the better we feel “in our skin.”

When we “debate” or “discuss” things, we all sit in our own corner — similar to a boxing ring — and defend our viewpoint to the last drop of blood. As some famous quotes on the Internet say, “we do not listen to others to understand what they say; we listen to prepare our answer to prove we know better.”

Until we get to know ourselves, the actual desires, aspirations, and intentions that drive us, moreover until we develop a true need and desire to change ourselves so we can listen to accept what others see and see the world through their viewpoint, nothing will change for the better.
