Why are we craving power?
Question from the Internet:
“Why does power feel good to humans? Is there a revolutionary reason behind it? Where does it come from?”
There is an evolutionary reason for it. Nature’s evolution “created” human beings with the unique and unparalleled human ego.
As a result, we all feel ourselves as independent, standalone, proudly and fiercely individualistic beings. This sense of the 100% egocentric and subjective “self” has been exponentially growing and intensifying through history to reach today’s maximum strength.
We define and prove ourselves through comparisons to others by constantly aiming to rise above others while controlling, manipulating and exploiting others.
We worship “power” in any form and crave to have it. But again, “power” in itself is useless; it makes sense only when we can use it against others, proving that we are stronger, more influential and more respected than them.
We will only understand human behaviour and human history — including what happens to us right now — when we study, recognize and accept the desires, forces and intentions that truly drive us. And we can exert the necessary changes on ourselves only when we have already recognized who we truly are and also developed a real desire and necessity for self-changes.
Otherwise, we will blindly and instinctively continue to destroy each other and ourselves.
