What will be the catalyst for change in human society?

Question from the Internet:

“Do you think our community needs a catalyst for change?”

I am not sure what “catalyst” means. But we surely and urgently need a change if we want to survive!

In order to change, we would need to recognize this need for change without any doubts, and at the same time, we would also need to know what we need to change.

And during history and even within this generation we have already recognized the need for certain changes and we did change as many things as we could through politics, economics, social arrangements and wars. But at the end of the day with each change, we simply fall deeper into crisis while collectively we are all inching toward seemingly inevitable self-destruction.

So the true catalyst for change would be first of all recognizing that the root cause of all the problems humanity has been suffering from and still suffers today from is our own, inherently self-serving, self-justifying, egocentric and exploitative nature.

It is our own nature that blindly and instinctively drives us towards excessive overconsumption and survival and success at the expense of others and Nature. Thus without changing ourselves and the way we relate to each other and to Nature, we cannot exert any effective and true changes on the world around us.
