What is the reason behind the constant wars?
Question from the Internet:
“Why are we always at war? Will wars ever stop?”
We are always at war — through real fighting, killing, or in constant arguments, disputes in every part of life — because this is where our inherent nature drives us.
We are all born with a proudly, fiercely individualistic ego, and we all define, justify ourselves through comparison to others. So our lifelong motivation, all our calculations are about overcoming others, making ourselves better, stronger, wealthier, more powerful, more respected, more feared than others with any means, abilities we can.
This happens incessantly — knowingly, unknowingly — between individuals, nations, within families, among friends and enemies alike. It could show itself as “joking”, friendly banter, seemingly harmless competition, provocation and it can spill into real arguments, fights and wars.
We cannot stop wars unless we study recognize and accept the forces, desires, intentions that drive all of us. As we can already see from historic experience and the events of our times, singling out, blaming certain people, parties, nations, religions is futile and false and acting on this lie makes our conflicts, wars only worse, stronger, longer.
Wars will stop when we all accept our own nature causing conflicts all the time and we also learn how to handle, conduct the inevitable arguments, disputes, conflicts in a peaceful manner, while always keeping the general balance and “homeostasis” — positive, mutually responsible and mutually complementing cooperation — our life depends on.
