What is the purpose?!

Question from the Internet:

“If the only thing people thought about was how to produce goods and services more efficiently, and how to optimize the development of their offspring, how much better off would humanity be?”

I thought more or less this is what we are doing? It seems to me that the only purpose of human society is to produce and consume goods and services more efficiently, in greater quantity so we can all have what we think we want immediately, so we can all fulfil our life’s purpose through this endless cycle of production and consumption.

And we raise children and educate them to become part of this happy production/consumption Matrix since this is the ultimate point of life.

Am I mistaken?

I thought we were all living the dream, we do not even know what to choose from everything that is available to us through the overwhelming media and entertainment palette, and we can have a new iPhone every year not to mention the shiny electric cars that will solve all our future problems. And when we want some relief we have Netflix and others, sports and music through hundreds of channels, we have the Queen’s Jubilee and even wars at faraway places we can watch live. The circus and bread offer is endless.

What else do we need?! We created the perfect world for our children!

Except that they look disinterested and angry, they use drugs and escape to the virtual world — which we also created for them lovingly — and they are looking into a totally aimless and hopeless future. These children are very ungrateful indeed, why do we need them?!

Perhaps we got the actual point and purpose of life very wrong all along?!
