What is the engine of human development?

Question from the Internet:

“Is there a development in science and technology that brought changes in human society?”

When we look at any form of development, we always have to find the engine of that development.

And human development has a single, all-encompassing engine: our inherently self-serving, self-justifying, individualistic and exploitative desire to receive pleasures for ourselves — or the human ego.

Behind everything we think, calculate, decide and do stands this insatiable and ever-growing desire for pleasures for ourselves at any costs.

Only this desire or the human ego differentiates us from other developed primates that remained virtually unchanged for millions of years while we are probing galaxies and dreaming about colonizing other planets while we also destroy each other and the planet.

All the civilizations we have ever built, everything we see in human society, science culture and technology are the offshoots of the inherent human desire that wants to consume and grab everything regardless of the consequences.

Only when we finally, humbly and honestly recognize our “inner engine” and the root cause of everything we have ever done and still do can we also learn how we can control, harness and use our inherent engine to build a better, safer and more peaceful and most of all sustainable future for mankind.
