What is causing overexploitation?

Question from the Internet:

“Is overexploitation caused by humans?”

If we want a simple, superficial answer, then yes, humans are causing overexploitation of each other and overexploitation of Nature.

But when we dive deeper, we see that the picture is not that simple at all.

Overexploitation is caused by the inherent, self-serving, self-justifying, subjective and individualistic ego in us. By default we blindly follow this inherent ego, surviving, succeeding through ruthless, exclusive competition at the expense of each other and Nature.

But the “truly Human” being in us — that has been dormant for millennia, waiting to be awakened — can override, harness this ego, turning the instinctive overexploitation into positive, mutually responsible and mutually complementing cooperation between humans and seamless integration with Nature.
