What can an individual do in a self-destructing society?
Question from the Internet:
“How does one properly comport oneself in society when faced with the self-inflicted extinction of one’s own species?”
One can either remain passive and go to slaughter like sheep, or one can “become the change”.
Humanity is self-inflicting extinction as a result of allowing our cancer-like, inherently cancer-like, self-serving, self-justifying, individualistic, and exploitative ego to control us.
It is the self-destructive, overconsuming, ruthlessly, and exclusively competitive ego — that thrives to survive, succeed at the expense of others and Nature — which has been causing all our historic and contemporary problems, crisis situations.
We are inevitably becoming extinct if we allow the ego to dictate our lives.
On the other hand, we also have the ability for critical self-assessment, we can recognize and accept the instinctive ego, our original operating software as the root cause of the problem. And after that conscious, honest recognition we can also initiate an unprecedented, willing self-change, self-upgrade, harnessing Nature’s evolutionary forces to help us integrate with each other and the Natural system above and against the ego.
If we accept this seemingly “mission impossible” and organize a closed, purposeful, and mutually complementing, mutually supportive environment to perform such self-upgrade, first of all, we can make ourselves independent from the dying, toxic general society and start the self-improving process by helping each other.
Then as such smaller environments — that are already forming around the world as we speak — become stronger, showing a positive example, they become the rescue boats for humanity’s sinking Titanic.
While changing ourselves to become mutually, selflessly integrated like Nature’s elements is against our ego, it is like “suicide” for the ego, increasingly intolerable suffering can soften people like salt softens the meat, so people who initially might reject any notion of changing themselves will understand that they have no other options.
Still, this process has to remain open, inviting people only through positive example, positive motivation, since coercion, misleading propaganda, fearmongering never work. The “negative motivation”, pressure will come from the general suffering, worsening crisis, real-life prospect of imminent self-destruction.
With the help of a unique, purposeful and highly practical education people will be able to understand that it is in their best interest to agree to change themselves and build “Nature-like” mutual integration with each other in order to solve our mounting problems and facilitate our continuing, collective Human survival — not to mention much greater, higher benefits that come from such collective existence!
