We need to study and understand human nature!
An article in The Jerusalem Post:
My comment:
Indeed, mutual responsibility and the urge to volunteer increases at times of crisis, when there is a collective sense of existential danger, and it wanes as life starts to return to “normal.”
This is completely “natural” since we are all inherently egocentric, self-serving, and self-justifying, and all our calculations revolve around ourselves.
For the same reason, our unity and mutual guarantee will also not survive the end of the war. Then, the usual infighting, hateful arguments, and attempts to undermine and remove whoever is on top will resume, and we will find ourselves in “civil-war-like” states again, and we will again invite our enemies to try to wipe us off the map.
We can not break these vicious cycles unless we finally recognize our inherent nature as what it is, and we also develop and intensify a true desire and need to change and further develop ourselves.
Our security, survival, and prosperity depend on the ongoing unity and mutual guarantee of the nation. But this cannot be secured through politics or the usual economic, social, or military means.
We need a special method that can help us learn and practice how to exist and behave above and against our instinctive nature. We need to revive our own ancient method that can help us cover the incessantly awakening instinctive “unfounded hatred” with purposefully and consciously developed and kept “brotherly love.”
This requires proper education, practice, and great effort from all.
