We need to learn how to debate in a positive, constructive way!

Question from the Internet:

“How does someone avoid a debate when it comes to giving one’s opinion?”

I don’t think we should avoid a debate, as without debate, colliding different opinions we can never come to proper solutions.

On the other hand I understand why one would want to avoid a debate, since - driven by our inherently self-justifying, fiercely, proudly individualistic nature - we use any debates, discussions to prove our own right, point of view at any cost, and it is even better if we humiliate, “destroy” others, their opinion in the process.

This is the kind of debating style we are brought up, educated with, this is what we see everywhere from media, entertainment and from those - leaders, experts, opinion influencers - who gives us examples.

As we can also see, this combative debating style, the need to convince other’s about our own opinion leads nowhere, as it is outright destructive in a world where we are all integrated, depend on each other and should solve our collective, global problems together.

So we need to learn how to debate properly, how to collide our inherently different viewpoints, opinions in a way that nothing is suppressed, erased, but we build a completely new, composite view, opinion that didn’t exist in any of us before the debate.

The tool we need to learn to use is the workshop or round tables discussion, moderated in a uniquely conductive, mutually complementing way.
