We need more than focusing on ecology
Opinion from the Internet about humanity in Nature:
“When you describe humanity’s present situation, you seem to be talking about “ecology”. In human society, we do very well to reflect and study and observe the way in which we as a species fit in with the rest of reality on this planet.
The attempt to be fair is actually an attempt to understand our lives and how we fit in from an ecological perspective.”
Thank you for your comment. I think what I tried to say goes beyond the scopes of ecology, as it is about how we fit into reality and it is also about our purpose as human species in Nature.
I agree with you that our human uniqueness is our ability to critically analyze, assess our situations, and make the necessary adjustments to correct ourselves and adapt.
But as the helplessly recurring vicious historic cycles, and our own present struggle to make sense of, and solve our mounting problems show, something is still missing from our analysis, making us unsuccessful in our decisions, solutions.
We are missing the most important puzzle piece in order to put the complete picture together, and undoubtedly this is the most difficult puzzle piece to find, accept.
We are ready to do anything, change anything — except to accept that it is ourselves that need to change and then to implement such self-changes. We are exerting 100% effort to change others and the world around us while we keep ignoring the fact that it is our own, inherently egocentric, subjective, exploitative nature that is behind all the problems humanity is suffering from.
Today more and more people realize this and start reluctantly entertain the possibility of changing oneself instead of “correcting”, “canceling”, “lecturing” others. We are finally touching the core of being human: existing as a conscious being that is capable of rising above a blind, instinctive nature and acting against that inherent nature for the sake of survival, for the sake of reaching our evolutionary goal, purpose in nature.
Exciting times!
