We need liberation from our own egos!

An article in The Jerusalem Post:

My comment:

I think most of us would agree that if we still had the same “impeccable” unity as after October the 7th, if we had a united leadership making fateful decisions together above all their differences while putting personal agendas aside, Israel would have already totally defeated Hamas and probably even Hezbollah and Iran would not dare to provoke with a barrage of missiles, and it would not even matter in what way our “allies” tried to hold us back.

But we do not have that kind of unity, and since society is fragmented, constantly ready to infight, our leadership — and its opposition — operates only on short-term self-interest.

Basically, we are still all behaving according to our inherently selfish, exploitative, and hateful human nature, with only immediate existential danger holding us together.

We truly need liberation, but not from our external enemies. They can bother us only because we are fighting within ourselves and succumbing to the instinctive mutual “unfounded hatred.”

We need liberation from our own selfish egos that control and enslave us, causing all our historical and present problems.

It is actually this “internal liberation from the internal Pharaoh” that the story of Exodus describes in a symbolic way.

As our sages suggest, we have to feel as if we ourselves come out of Egypt here and now, escaping the inherent and destructive ego in us. Only this way can we sustain our true unity and mutual guarantee that is the key to our survival.
