We have a role in Nature’s developmental plan, either passively, blindly, or actively, consciously

Opinion on the Internet about Human development:

“Steven Pinker in his latest books “Better Angels of Our Nature and Enlightenment Now” demonstrates that the world has been improving for as long as it can be measured into the past. His opinion is that this has happened because of the slow adoption of what Micheal Shermer would call the Good Age of Enlightenment Values. Pinker says these are values we associate with the Age of Enlightenment because before then there was no real name for it but it still holds true. In other words, these values did not come from the Age of Enlightenment, they had been developing for a long time and became better defined in that age. He also said that this same progress is not inevitable to continue, but how much more real progress could happen if we were aware of it and positively promoted it?

When people believe in the superstition of instant karma and final justice it cowardly pushes the responsibility of justice to a higher power which is very likely to not exist at all. The end result of this kind of thinking leads one to promote anarchism within the context of your religion, whatever that may be. In other words, if your higher power provides you with all the justice you need then depending on human justice would be a sign of a lack of faith. In this mindset, the government has nothing to provide and taxation is theft.”

I agree with what you say. We are in a constant developmental process that is pushing us towards the most optimal final outcome.

After all, we are not independent of Nature’s system, we were born from the system, we are still an integral part of it and we evolve with it.

But contrary to all parts of the Natural system we have the ability to become conscious partners in the changes instead of being passively pushed towards the outcome.

While the world “has been improving for as long as can be measured” it is not improving from our own point of view. Maybe philosophers, “intellectuals” can find interesting angles from which our progress seems positive, I am intrigued by how repeating the vicious cycles of history, again approaching another “civilization-ending explosion” with easily predictable socio-economic collapse, world war can be seen as improvement?!

But it is an improvement from a systematic point of view, as the intensifying suffering will inevitably push us towards a new “awakening”/enlightenment”, wanting to know the general development plan and our own role in it.

Of course, we have the ability to start searching, mapping this plan, finding and fulfilling our role in it before such intolerable pain, suffering.

It is then, that our Human development will truly become positive, it is then that we will truly become the “masters of our own fate”. Then we can leave our superstitions, belief in “karma”, as we will precisely, scientifically know the Natural plan of evolution, our own role in it and how we need to adapt to it, so we become its partners in a realistic, tangible manner without the need for philosophies or different belief systems.
