We don’t need to cut Humanity’s population to achieve balance!
Question from the Internet:
“Will the human population have to be cut for long-term sake?”
First of all according to different predictions, studies, global Human population will peak within a few years and then start declining without any extra measures, interventions.
Still, there are people suggest that Humanity’s problems — at least part of the problems — are due to overpopulation. These people suggest “culling” Humanity through different method, even wars, so a balance could be established.
These people ignore the real problem, the actual footprint of each and every person in our artificial, excessively overconsuming societies.
Apart from a constantly shrinking minority that still lives in true poverty — having problems with day to day survival as they can’t access their necessities - most of the people in the world have more than what they need, especially in developed countries.
And apart from excessive overconsumption the distribution of resources, wealth is also skewed, as a very small percentage of Humanity possesses most of the resources and wealth without sharing it to others.
Thus the truth is that if we shifted to a lifestyle within the optimal parameters of natural necessities (according to a healthy, modern, Human life) and available resources, Earth could easily cater for an even greater number of Humans.
The drastic reduction of present production/consumption will happen regardless of what we do. The pandemic is only the first step in this process, how Nature’s balanced, lawful system destroys the harmful Human activities whether we agree or not.
But besides this we also need to learn — also according to Nature’s template — how to organize the fair, relatively equal distribution of resources and wealth according to everybody’s mutually responsible, mutually complementing contribution to the well-being of the whole.
