We can’t unite and keep our unity without the right method!
An article in The Jerusalem Post:
My comment:
It is likely, especially with Trump becoming President, that the wars around Israel will stop and, at least for a while, Israel can live in peace again.
This should give us the opportunity to do the inner “stock-taking” the article recommends.
What Rabbi Shuchat writes is very important on multiple counts. It is true that only through national unity — above anything and everything that separates us — can we continue to survive and deter our enemies.
Even more importantly, we have to build and maintain this unity and mutual guarantee above the constantly erupting animosity and the ever-increasing differences of opinions between us.
And this requires a special educational method and practical practice, after all, we have to learn how to exist and behave above and against our inherent instincts and urges.
The required national unity and “brotherly love” that is the guarantee for our success and survival is not automatic, and it is not innate in us; we have to learn, relearn, and keep practicing it.
This is why the unique Jewish method, Rav Kook’s famous contemporary colleague and friend Rav Yehuda Ashlag, and similar previous sages throughout history established for us are so important.
We cannot let the military victory and expected stronger American support silencing our enemies for a while go to waste! We have to reinforce ourselves with our strongest and truest shield and “asset:” our unique and unconditional unity and mutual guarantee above and against inherent human nature.
