We are social creatures

Question from the Internet:

“Is it still valid that people are social creatures or was that valid until the world was not overpopulated?”

I do not think “overpopulation” (there are more and more studies suggesting that the human population will peak soon and then it will naturally decline to a lower level than today) changes the fact that we are social creatures.

A more interesting question could be if the ever-growing ego, the intensifying selfishness, narcissism, alienation made us “non-social creatures”?

The answer would be the same no.

Even in our egotistic, individualistic modern world we could not exist without each other, solitary confinement is still the most severe punishment and the pandemic also caused significant psychological damage to those who had to isolate themselves alone or without meaningful human contact.

And this is just from the viewpoint of human psychology.

From Nature’s systemic point of view, there is no question at all, humanity is a single species, treated by Nature as a single “super-organism” where we are all but individual cells.

This is why evolution forced us into a globally integrated, interdependent world. And while living through seamless, Natural, mutual integration is against our inherently egocentric, subjective worldview, behavior, we do not have any other choice but to learn and implement what “being social creatures” actually means according to Nature’s laws and integral system.

The fact that we can ask these questions and that we have to achieve the crucially necessary, Nature-like integration between us above, against our original nature is also purposeful by evolution. This human consciousness, active self-adaptation to Nature gives us the ability to fulfill our unique evolutionary Human role, purpose in Nature: to understand, implement, witness Nature’s integral system from within, to become equal, fully aware partners with Nature’s evolution driving the whole system towards the most optimal integration, function.
