Truly Human shame
Question from the Internet:
“Is shame something that is instinctive to human beings, or is it conditioned into us by society?”
Shame is a very special, exclusively Human notion, emotional impression.
It does not exist in animals, although we try to project our own feelings, emotional states to animals, in truth a dog, a cat does not feel shame for stealing the food, they might be conditioned to fear punishment for it but that is not truly shame.
Even the shame we ourselves feel when we are humiliated, or when our crimes are found out, or when we suddenly find ourselves under the spotlight, that is an instinctive, animalistic shame, fearing punishment, feeling ourselves inferior compared to others.
Truly Huma shame, which burns so much that even death is better appears when we start to feel ourselves against our revealed, unique, evolutionary Human purpose and we find ourselves opposite, far away from it, when we start to feel that we have the opportunity to fulfill that purpose and we are not doing it.
Then we understand how much we harm everybody, the whole system by our inaction, failure, ignorance, and that brings that burning shame we simply cannot tolerate, it erases us from existence!
