True Jewish unity is “supernatural!”
An article in The Jerusalem Post:
My comment:
This article contains quotes from the Torah, which symbolizes our eternal connection with “G_d.”
During this war, secular and religious started praying together regardless of people’s beliefs.
Still, when it comes to maintaining our unity, we think we can do it ourselves.
True Jewish unity is something “supernatural” — it has to be sustained above and against the inherently egotistic, self-serving, self-justifying, and hateful human nature.
The present unity — as good and crucial as it is — is simply the result of the same survival reflex that unites any group, nation, and even animals facing existential danger.
The moment the external pressure and the sense of collective danger wanes, the hateful, exploitative, and argumentative reflexes will prevail again, and there is nothing we can “humanly” do against them.
In short, without a “higher force,” Jews and Israel cannot keep their unity; nobody can.
However, we have a special, practical, and tried-and-tested method that can harness the “Creator,” the single governing force of natural reality, which force can neutralize and complement our instinctive tendencies and help us build and sustain “brotherly love” above and against instinctive “unfounded hatred.”
This has nothing to do with “religion” or mysticism; Jewish unity is practical and sustained by natural laws as long as we learn and practice how to keep these natural laws.
Jews — religious or secular — have to relearn and practice how to recruit reality’s singular force to our side!
