The transition from blind to conscious evolution
Question from the Internet:
“Among the many developments and changes that the history of humanity and society have made, from hunting and gathering to post-industrialization what do you think is the most significant invention/event that you think led us where we are right now?”
It is our ever-growing, inherently self-serving, self-justifying, insatiable egos that drove us where we are.
The ego which always wants more, that is irrepressible and infinitely inquisitive drove humanity’s incredible development compared to other developed primates that remained unchanged for millions of years.
And it is the same ego that makes us behave like cancer in the fully integrated and interdependent world we have evolved into.
Now — for the first time consciously, instead of blindly serving the ego — we have to learn how to harness and channel the incredible and irrepressible power of the ego towards positive, constructive, mutually responsible and mutually complementing collective goals and purpose.
Otherwise, we will not survive in Nature’s integral system where only collective existence, mutual integration are favored by evolution. Our Human uniqueness, our advantage is that we can, have to learn this mutual integration consciously, being fully aware of the changes and their purpose. It is this conscious self-change, self-adaptation to Nature that makes us “truly Human”, objective, integrated, and at the same time independent observers, partners of Nature.
