The rebirth of Jewish unity
An article in The Jerusalem Post:
My comment:
Some people compared the events of October 7th to the Holocaust. In terms of sheer scale, the two events cannot be compared, but measured through its effect on Israel and World Jewry, this recent shock mobilized Jews all over the world, evoking a very strong and positive response.
I think everybody in the world was shocked seeing Israelis flocking home to defend their countries, the population uniting despite all their previous differences and disputes, and Jews all over the world unconditionally started supporting Israel even in the face of strong antisemitism.
It is as if we finally understood that we are a single Nation that has its original, millennia-old home in the Land of Israel.
This unity still came as a result of terrible suffering and the war, which can spread to multiple fronts.
What happens next is the most important question.
Do we forget about this unity after the war ends? Do we revert to infighting while Diaspora Jews assimilate in their “home nations” again?
Perhaps we finally understand that maintaining and strengthening this unity is not only the key to our survival, but it is also our actual purpose and role in humanity.
Perhaps we learn and understand that the solution for all our problems and the hate against us is showing a positive example of how human survival is possible only through this unique Jewish unity — above and despite the instinctively selfish and egoistic human nature.
Israel needs to become the positive leader of the world through this example!
