The incredible, unparalleled Human development in Nature, and also our seemingly inevitable march to self-destruction is fueled by the Human ego

“Why are humans the only ones that advance as a species?”

The only thing that differentiates Human beings from other developed primates is our insatiable, self-serving, self-justifying, individualistic Human ego. And this ego has been exponentially growing, intensifying through history, propelling the dizzying Human progress of the last centuries, especially of the last few decades.

Without this Human ego chimpanzees, orangutans — we originate from the same root with, started from the same natural habitat from — remained basically unchanged for millions of years, while we are probing distant galaxies, putting people on the Moon, want to colonize other planets, etc.

Without the constant egotistic drive, the insatiable desire for more, to consume everything, without the constant ruthless, exclusive competition this unfathomable Human progress would not have been possible.

On the other hand, the self-serving, self-justifying, exploitative ego also turns us against Nature’s system, as our behavior, our Human systems have increasingly become incompatible with Nature’s fundamental laws that sustain the balance and homeostasis life and optimal development depends on.

Humanity has become like cancer in nature — especially in the last decades when our consumption, reckless destruction of everything we put our hands on reached a critical threshold. We are like children who should settle down, mature, and integrate into their surroundings after the breakneck growth of childhood but we refuse to do so.

On the other hand, Nature’s vast system is infinitely greater and stronger than us, and the strict, “iron laws” that operate in Nature are unbreakable, cannot be ignored or bribed.

Thus we have reached a unique turning point in Human evolution, where we have to change the previous, blind and instinctive egotistic development to a conscious, “Nature-like” progress, learning Nature’s integral template, accepting Nature’s laws, and building a Human society that is compatible with them.

Our problem-solving ability and collective Human survival depend on this, and the unique, revolutionary task of starting the conscious Human development is the responsibility of our present generation!
