The future is still in our own hands
Question from the Internet:
“I’m completely paranoid about climate change. Will humanity go extinct because of this? Will there be no more cold or snow in the future? Is it irreversible and inevitable? Is it still worth living and having children?”
I sympathize with you, although many try to deny the problem. Climate change has the potential to cause massive loss of human habitat and life, but the truth is, climate change is not the only issue that can wipe most of humanity out.
As we can “enjoy live” a potential nuclear war is brewing on the border of Europe, while there are plenty of other geopolitical hotspots that can also become the precursors for world wars.
But even without wars, our present socio-economic system is collapsing as we speak — another fact many try to ignore, deny, waiting for the magical return to “normal”.
And as our woefully inadequate reactions, “solutions” to the pandemic showed, if we were hit by a much more serious global plague, infection — for example due to antibiotic resistance as a result of overuse — it would decimate us since we can’t even comprehend, let alone solve global problems.
And this is all, because we are all still blindly, instinctively driven by our inherently self-serving, self-justifying, egocentric, and exploitative nature. Whatever happens, our automatic reaction is a ruthless competition, trying to survive, succeed at the expense of others and at the expense of Nature.
In its original form, Humanity is cancer and we are approaching a terminal state when cancer destroys itself together with the host.
Despite all of this, the tragic ending is not inevitable. We can still recognize and accept that the root cause of all the problems is within ourselves. Then instead of blaming, reprimanding, correcting, destroying others, and manipulating the world, we can start a conscious, methodical process of self-correction, self-upgrade — following Nature’s template and laws of mutual integration.
Then we will be able to build the crucially necessary, positive and sustainable, mutually responsible and mutually complementing interconnections, cooperation problem-solving and collective survival depends on.
And then we will rebuild our human system in a way, that will be suitable to bring children into, a system that has the proper education and a revived family structure that encompasses the whole of humanity.
This is all in our hands and ability here and now. We just need to want it after we recognized who we are and what desires, intentions truly drive all of us. As long as we think we can continue as we are, that we are people with good character and only a few “rotten apples” sour the world, we will continue our sleepwalk towards total self-destruction.
