The end of an era
Question from the Internet:
“Does the ongoing global economic crisis signal the end of hyperconsumption and hyperdebt?”
Yes, it does.
The COVID19 pandemic is like a milestone in Human development as it pulled the plug from the artificial “life-support” we stubbornly tried to keep it excessive overproduction, overconsumption socio-economic system alive with.
And this “life-support” consisted of the multiple “virtual money” transfusions in the form of bailout and stimulus packages. In order words we have been paying for debts with even greater debt, making individual and national debt burdens unserviceable.
It is actually mind-boggling how we all fooled, convinced ourselves that this crazy, unnatural way of life was possible to maintain. We want to live like cancer - consuming, exploiting everything and everyone, breaking Nature’s laws sustaining balance, homeostasis - and hope to survive as if nothing happened.
Now the virus had pulled the “virtual carpet” from underneath us, the old/present system is collapsing.
Still, a “happy ending” is not guaranteed. Without special, necessary changes, adjustments in ourselves, and in the relationships between us we would sleepwalk into the usual “historic solution” in such crisis situations: war.
So in order to avoid very likely and probably devastating world war, we urgently need to learn — through a special, purposeful, and practical educational method — why our previous system was unsustainable, self-destructive.
