Technology is a tool in the hands of human beings

Question from the Internet:

“Why, in thinking of the future, is there a tendency to presume technological innovations will go hand in hand with devastation leading to a very dark future?”

Technology is a tool. Regardless of how advanced technology is, it performs and achieves exactly what the user does with it.

And the users — human beings — inherently use everything with 100% self-serving, self-justifying, subjective and individualistic intentions and aspirations. We use everything through ruthless competition, trying to succeed and gain at the expense of others.

Most of our technology is used to manipulate, control and exploit others.

It is not surprising that the cutting edge of technology is the “defence industry” and how to spy on one another; everything is then filtered from that “cutting edge” into public use. Even the Internet, media and “entertainment” is part of the general propaganda and the machinery to brainwash and control people 24/7.

So as long as we continue developing and using everything with the same instinctive mindset and intentions, we will continue destroying everything around us until we reach the dystopian state Hollywood is predicting for us.
