Self-interest is the program we are born with, we need to rise above

Question from the Internet:

“Should we celebrate self-interest as a guiding moral principle?”

We don’t need to celebrate “self-interest", it is the program we are born with, that dictates, governs everything we do. And of course self-interest defines our present moral principles as well.

What we slowly start to recognise is that self-interest, the instinctively egocentric, subjective calculations we live by is symbolically, literally killing us.

Especially now, that we evolved into a globally integrated, interdependent world, self-interest means that we are simply incapable of forming mutually responsible, mutually complementing interconnections, cooperation.

And without such connections we can’t solve the mounting global problems, we can’t facilitate, safeguard our collective Human survival.

Thus we reached a historic moment in Human development, when we need to consciously, proactively learn how to develop a new intention: attitude, taking the interest of others, the interest of the whole Humanity, and Nature’s system we exist in into consideration — before and above instinctive self-interest.

This has nothing to do with political ideology, philosophy or religion. This has to happen according to Nature’s strict, unforgiving laws that sustain the balance and homeostasis life depends on.
