Reaching Arvut through the Torah
The journey to achieving Arvut – a state of selfless and altruistic mutual responsibility and guarantee – stands as one of the most profound aspirations of humanity. It is through our collective effort, using all our might and ability, that we strive to establish this sacred connection. When we receive the Torah, it acts as a divine tool to guide us toward Arvut, enabling us to feel the Creator’s presence actively working between us. In this process, we come to understand that we exist within a vast system of forces – forces that we can connect to and harness, forces of love and bestowal that sustain and intensify our mutual integration.
To achieve Arvut demands a level of self-subjugation that transcends our inherently selfish, egotistic, and individualistic nature. It requires an all-encompassing yearning to reach this higher state, even as we acknowledge that our natural abilities fall short. This yearning for Arvut becomes a recognition of our need for the unique and transformative method of the Torah, which draws on the natural, developing forces of reality to accomplish this lofty goal. Through this method, we begin to perceive the forces at work, connecting and bringing all elements of creation closer to the Creator. To align ourselves with this process, we must become active, conscious, and purposeful partners with these forces, joining their effort to align creation with its divine purpose.
This transformative work unfolds within a unique and supportive environment where each individual is mutually committed to the others. In such a setting, the collective develops an overwhelming, irrepressible yearning to achieve Arvut. This yearning evolves into a “prayer,” a powerful plea that draws upon the natural forces required to effect mutual connection. It is through this sincere desire and effort, despite our inherent limitations, that the Torah’s method works its miracles, enabling a group to change and transform.
The ultimate goal of this journey is to break through the instinctively egocentric and separating boundaries of human nature. Through our mutual efforts, we begin to feel as though we exist as a single living organism, with each individual functioning as a healthy, integrated cell within it. In order to connect in this way, we must first disconnect from our previous perception of the Creator and embrace a “new Creator.” This new perception represents a higher, more refined understanding of the Creator’s qualities – qualities of selfless love and unconditional bestowal. Each step brings us closer to clothing ourselves in these godly qualities and achieving ever-greater similarity with the Creator.
The process of transformation is not passive. While natural forces work upon us, we must actively seek and desire the new state, preparing ourselves to surrender everything for a reality we have not yet experienced. This is the essence of growth: entering a new state of unity and mutual integration, where we begin to sense reality “outside of ourselves.” By perceiving through the desires and viewpoints of others and working solely for their benefit, we draw nearer to the Creator’s nature, embodying a selfless, altruistic intention.
At the heart of this transformation is the practice of Arvut. Each person must develop a sharp and unwavering sense of absolute responsibility toward others, mirroring the Creator’s boundless love and bestowal. This practice begins in small groups, where the recognition, scrutiny, and adjustments needed for transformation are more tangible. These smaller groups, however, must be integrated into a larger collective, creating a network of mutual support and shared purpose.
When we achieve the state of existing for the sake of others – surrendering our egos and connecting through mutual love and bestowal – we begin to perceive the Creator’s singular, governing force through the collective. Direct connection with the Creator is impossible on an individual basis; it is only through others that we can sense and reveal Him. This is the essence of Arvut: a human connection network where every individual focuses solely on helping others enter and remain within this system of mutual responsibility.
The network of Arvut operates with a single goal: to achieve similarity with the Creator by adopting His qualities of pure, selfless love and service. This requires constant effort and dedication, creating unity that transcends our instinctive separation until we become utterly dependent on the method of the Torah and its unique developing forces.
On a personal level, this process involves continual self-monitoring. I strive to give priority to others, enabling them to expand their actions and strengthen the Arvut. This mutual effort becomes like a sacred game, where each person supports and uplifts the other, fostering deeper self-control, self-annulment, and mutual bestowal. Over time, this game evolves into a dynamic of perfect integration, where each individual acts with such sensitivity and transparency that our interactions leave only positive and healing impressions.
The culmination of this work lies in a small, pioneering group or nation that achieves perfect Arvut and begins to draw others into its circle. Over time, this circle expands to include all of humanity, ultimately revealing the Creator in the center of the collective connection. This vision – a world united in love and mutual responsibility – is the ultimate expression of the Creator’s will, made manifest through the method of the Torah and the sacred work of Arvut. Together, we build a reality that reflects the Creator’s boundless love, transforming ourselves and the world around us.
