Physical and inner poverty

Question from the Internet:

“Is poverty a state of mind or a lack of resources?”

It is both.

There are people for whom even their daily necessities are missing. For them, poverty, the lack of resources is their actual, physical reality.

But there are people who have all their physical necessities, who have much more than they need, and they are still “poor”. They are poor as their truly Human purpose in life is missing. Thus — while they might have millions, billions on their bank account, multiple houses, cars, partners, celebrity friends and fame, power — they still feel empty, depressed, unaccomplished as our truly Human purpose cannot be found through any of those means above, and as a result, they become destructive, self-destructive.

We can’t think about, search for the meaning, the purpose of life if we do not have something to eat, we do not have shelter, we can’t care for our loved ones. But obtaining, accumulating material wealth, physical pleasures alone will not bring us to true fulfillment, to our predetermined, evolutionary Human purpose in life.

And while both “poverty” can literally kill the person — through starving, sickness or through using drugs, committing suicide due to the inner emptiness, purposelessness — the poverty, the emptiness, the lack one feels without that purpose might be even stronger, more self-destructive than searching for one’s basic, daily, natural necessities.
