Only our own cancer-like ego stands in our way!

An article in The Jerusalem Post:

My comment:

I think, by now, we should know what stands in the way of national unity in Israel or in the way of lasting peace and harmony in the world.

It is our inherently self-serving, self-justifying, individualistic, subjective, exploitative, and hateful human nature that stands in the way.

This inherent human nature — or the human ego — is not unique to certain political ideologies, nationalities, cultures, religions, skin colors, or gender.

The same destructive and self-destructive ego drives all of us without any exception. We can think about and make calculations only for ourselves, and knowingly or unknowingly, we all succeed and prosper at the expense of others and nature.

This is the proverbial “unfounded hatred” our sages wrote about.

The Jewish people have an ancient, tried, and tested practical method for diagnosing, recognizing, and accepting this lethal cancer in ourselves — instead of searching for it in others.

The same method can also help us proactively, willingly, and purposefully develop and upgrade ourselves so we can become capable of existing and behaving above and against the human ego — without oppressing or erasing it.

Our Jewish role in the world and the only reason we exist as separate and unique people is to implement this method on ourselves, reach a special Jewish unity and mutual guarantee, and by that, show a positive, life-saving example to everybody else.
