“Never Again!” should mean that we never again abandon our unity!

An article in The Jerusalem Post:

My comment:

This war gave the whole of Israeli society and the Diaspora Jewry a chance for deeper integration.

The rude awakening, the collective suffering, grief, and existential danger awakened us to the notion of being a single Nation, a single family.

But this is still only a chance.

The test will come when the external pressure and the fear for our survival become less obvious when seemingly we can “return to normal” again.

And it is not difficult to predict that if we leave things to unfold by themselves, things will “return to normal,” which means the usual bickering, infighting, and trying to undermine and overcome one another — especially when new elections are called.

My concern is less with the Haredim.

As we can see, even now, forces on the “left side” of the political and social spectrum are already sharpening their knives, some of them actively calling “foreign forces” to interfere with Israel’s leadership and even with the activities of the IDF.

Exactly how in earlier times in history when it was Jews who brought alien powers to crush their fellow Jews.

Without the right education and preparation each and every Jew viscerally feels the “advice” (rather law) our predecessors received at Sinai, that we either commit to unity and mutual guarantee above and against all our differences or we perish, we will continue sleepwalking and bickering towards the next collective blow.

“Never Again!” means that we will never again abandon our unique unity between us!
