Nature is not endangered, we are
Question from the Internet:
“What are the indications around the world that show we are doing more harm to the Earth than good?”
Honestly I am not sure what good we are doing to Earth, since we don’t even consider such things. We only care about doing good to ourselves, to fulfill our incessantly growing desires for more, exploiting, using, destroying everything as we see fit.
Even in a country like New Zealand that is considered “green”, Humans have destroyed over 70–80% of native forests within a relatively short time since Humans appeared here, not to mention the animal life that has been destroyed since.
Even the so called “environmental/green” activity that goes around is based on our inherently egocentric, subjective perception, intellect, Humans acting blindly as if they knew what Nature needs.
If we needed proof about the war that has been going on between Humans and Nature we received a very sharp, unmistakeable demonstration during the unprecedented global lockdown through the first wave of the pandemic. We could observe an almost miraculous recovery, repair activity from Nature while Humans retreated in their fear from the virus.
But this unique natural recovery showed another very important thing: it is not Nature that is endangered, we ourselves are the only truly endangered species!
Nature’s system has been around for billions of years and has recovery, renewal ability we can’t even comprehend yet. On the other hand right now we are on a path towards a seemingly inevitable self-destruction we can trigger from multiple places through multiple causes. Nature can patiently wait for Humans to disappear and then carry on as it did before.
So the most important question is whether we can save ourselves - by learning from Nature and following the laws, principles of the balance and homeostasis life and optimal development depends on?!
