Well, it seems that non-Jews understand what it means “to be Jewish” better than Jews themselves.
At least now, while we are celebrating Shavuot, we should reflect and remember when our Nation was born. We should well remember and revive the conditions on which the Jewish Nation was born because even today, our success and survival depend on the same conditions!
The mutual guarantee our predecessors pledged to — despite recognizing and feeling the irrepressible and constantly intensifying “Mount of Hatred” between them — is something unique. It is something we have to achieve above and against our selfish, egoistic, and individualistic human nature.
This “supernatural” unity and mutual guarantee means that each and every Jew — regardless of who they are and where they live are part of the same Nation of “one man with one heart.” Each Jew is totally and unconditionally responsible for each and every other Jew, and our calculations should always be about the benefit of the whole above and against instinctive self-benefit and self-justification.
If we do not relearn and implement this in practice, Israel’s existential threat and antisemitism will continue to grow until we feel the warning of Sinai — Unity or Death! — on our skins.
I do not even want to comment on those poor, misguided souls who want to connect marijuana to Judaism, as most people probably would not even understand the problems with this in our present society.
If we want to live, we need to return to our roots!
