It is time to end our spiritual exile!
An article in The Jerusalem Post:
My comment:
Unfortunately, despite returning to our physical Land, we have never established an independent and sovereign nation on it.
This is still a task that is ahead of us.
The problem is that we failed to embrace and revive our original, spiritual foundations, and instead, we wanted to build a secular country that is more and more aligned with the Western part of society, especially with America.
Many say that Israel is just another State of the US.We have become like the proverbial Hellenistic Jews, forgetting what makes us Jewish, what our unique and absolutely necessary role in the world is.
We threw away our original Jewish method and have been following the failing, and destructive methods of others.
Reviving our original spiritual foundations does not mean observing the Rabbinical Orthodox Judaism of today. This Judaism was established after the destruction of the Second Temple to guide Jewis in exile.
Now, that the physical exile is over, we need to return to our “original Judaism” which starts with and depends on the same mutual guarantee and “brotherly love above unfounded hatred” our prededessors pledged to at Sinai. As Rabbi Akiva and others expressed, the main Mitzvah of the Torah is “Love your friend as yourself,” the rest are additions and the necessary actions to come to the main precept.
Without our original spiritual foundations and mutual guarantee we are weak and depend on others, while we offer an inviting target to our enemies.
It is time to end our spiritual exile!
