Is our generation doomed?
Question from the Internet:
“Why is my generation doomed? I don’t like their actions.”
While this generation truly looks doomed on one hand, on the other hand, we have reached a unique crossroad, approaching a truly free choice for the first time in history.
This is the first time that we start to recognize that behind all the helplessly recurring vicious historic cycles, and behind all the perpetual crisis situations we ourselves go through stands our own inherent nature.
The sole reason for all of our previous and present problems is the inherently self-serving, self-justifying, individualistic and exploitative ego that drives us towards excessive overconsumption and ruthless competition, success at each other’s expense.
So after the millennia-long, blind, distinctive, self-destructive development finally we can choose to change the only thing that needs changing: ourselves. And this has to happen consciously, willingly, freely, each person changing, fine-tuning, “upgrading” oneself instead of changing, correcting, manipulating, oppressing and defeating others.
Thus while our generation looks doomed, ready to self-destruct, at the same time this generation is the first and probably the last that can start and implement the crucially necessary self-changes that can safeguard, facilitate our continuing, collective, human existence and development.
