Is global governance feasible?
Question from the Internet:
“What would a sustainable structure of global governance look like given that it must be efficient in solving any global existential crises while it must also be resilient enough to prevent insignificant crises to become existential in the first place?”
The most important thing about “global governance” is that it cannot be established artificially, it cannot be forced on individuals or nations in our present state. We can see how muted, ineffective the UN is, how it became a circus where the stronger, more influential nations simply force their own will on “lesser nations”.
At the moment for example everybody takes it for granted that the sole dictum of the US is the right dogma, leadership to follow regarding the Ukrainian war (and basically everything else). But there is no global consensus, there is no coordination and the UN is silent as if did not exist. On the other hand, interestingly more and more nations step back from automatically accepting this American dictum and the world is as if breaking into 2 separate parts.
We could see woefully inadequate our responses, “solutions” were through the pandemic, since every individual, every nation went according to their own subjective, egocentric ideas, direction.
We cannot establish any kind of global consensus, cooperation as long everything is dictated by selfish, egoistic interest, each individual and nation making calculations and acting only for their own introverted benefit, constantly succeeding at the expense of others.
On the other hand, as you suggested, it is inevitable that sooner or later we will need true, functioning and sustainable global governance,e cooperation, Otherwise we will simply not survive ion Nature’s fully integrated band interdependent system that also forced a global, integral world on us.
Here we are not playing with ideologies, philosophies, we are not facing a human judge that can be ignored, mislead or bribed. There is nothing we can do against Nature’s strict, unchanging and unforgiving laws: we either learn and follow them, or we sink ever-deeper into crisis until we totally self-destruct, or intolerable suffering will teach us to learn and follow Nature’s direction.
Thus if we are wise — at least a small, sensitive, willing critical minority — then we start willingly, consciously, methodically adapting ourselves to Nature’s laws of integration, rebuilding human interconnections and cooperation based on Nature’s mutually integral template.
Then from this will a “global governance, cooperation” grow out organically, which global governance will everybody accept, clearly seeing, feeling that it is in our best interest.
