Is a utopian society possible?
Question from the Internet:
What would need to happen in order for us to have a truly utopian society without any corruption or inequality?
“Utopia, an ideal commonwealth whose inhabitants exist under seemingly perfect conditions. Hence utopian and utopianism are words used to denote visionary reform that tends to be impossibly idealistic.” http://www.britannica.com
We usually consider “utopia” unachievable. Most of the time, we can’t even comprehend or express what it means. And as long as we assess, evaluate and judge everything from our own inherently egocentric, subjective, an individualistic viewpoint, we will remain this way.
In fact, we already exist in “utopia”, at least regarding the Natural system that surrounds us. But even Nature we view and assess the same way, declaring it hostile, destructive and “animalistic” where only the strongest survive by hunting and consuming the weakest.
We can see Nature as the perfect system only when we view it from its totality, seeing how all the extremely diverse and seemingly incompatible still, vegetative and animate parts mutually complement each other in order to create and sustain life through a finely governed homeostasis — each individual part playing its most optimal role for that perfection.
If we had the chance to observe our own biological body on the cellular level, we would also declare it chaotic, and self-destructive in constant upheaval and war, where seemingly wanton destruction and aimless rebuilding happen simultaneously. But at the same time, in our “human consciousness,” we are healthy and calm, enjoying ourselves perfectly in an ideal state.
This is the same perfection, health and most optimal existence we could see in Nature if we managed to perceive and observe it as a single system while acquiring “Nature’s viewpoint”.
We will never live in a utopia as individual beings.
But we can reach a true and absolutely tangible “utopia” as a single human “super-organism” that becomes a benevolent and partnering integrated part of Nature. Moreover, as a result of such mutual integration and mutually complementing “natural” cooperation, we would also start sensing and using an unprecedented “collective consciousness and intellect” that encompasses the whole of Nature and is able to oversee and govern Nature.
This state is actually our unique, evolutionary Human purpose in our lives. And it is not a utopia that we should philosophize and dream about. It is an actual state we can consciously, purposefully and methodically achieve even within this generation — instead of self-destructing.
