How is AI harming humanity?

“How can artificial intelligence harm society?”

I think it is fair to say that humanity is in crisis. We could even say that we are in a desperately helpless situation.

While both individually and collectively, we are at a dead-end in terms of our human development; while all our systems are crumbling and we have no idea how to solve our growing and threatening local and global problems, we also have enough experience to know that it will not help us if we change leaders, governments, ideologies and we haplessly swing from left to right and from right to left.

We also see that even if we go to war with others — or we keep provoking wars between others hoping to benefit — it will not help anybody, only cause destruction on all sides.

This is the first time in human history when we do not believe that we can find solutions to our problems, even if we still go through the motions as if we were trying to change things for the better.

So what can offer hope? Religion? After over 2000 years of seeing the terrible destruction and suffering religions caused to humanity, I do not think many believe that “blind faith” will make our world a better place.

Of course, we can dream of “superheroes,” especially since Hollywood can’t stop delivering “superhero” movies, not to mention how many “iconic” and “legendary” celebrities, influencers, and billionaire philanthropists ( who are planning to colonize other planets among other things) and activists we have.

Still, probably, we already know that there won’t be “real-life” superheroes and that our celebrities, influencers, activists, and philanthropists are more interested in their own wealth and fame than in actually solving the problems humanity is facing.

But now, a new hope is kindled. Enter AI, our “new God,” which will find solutions for all our problems. And even if AI takes over management and puts all of us into the “Matrix,” we will still have a better and safer life and secure future since AI cannot make mistakes and will always find the perfect solutions.

The biggest harm AI is causing to human society is the new “religion” and blind belief that now that we have AI, we are saved, all our problems will be solved, and we can relax and continue living — and destroying and consuming everything — as before.

I do not think AI can cause any greater harm; after all, AI is a tool created and programmed by human beings and used by human beings. As a tool, AI will cause harm — or benefit us — according to how we are using it.

AI cannot solve our problems since the root cause of all our problems is inside of us. Only we can solve our problems after recognizing that the root cause of all our problems is our inherently selfish, egoistic, and exploitative nature.

We can solve our problems only if we humbly, willingly, and consciously start changing and further developing ourselves until we start existing and acting very differently and for very different goals and purposes.

The biggest harm AI is causing at present is that it gives us another excuse not to look into the mirror and accept that we all have to change and correct ourselves and the way we live.
