How do the laws of Nature relate to human society?
Question from the Internet:
“What exactly is natural law, and how does it apply today?”
I am not sure what people usually refer to as “natural law”. But it is a fact that we exist in a lawful Natural system, where everything is governed by strict, unchanging and unforgiving laws like the law of gravity for example.
And since we are also integral parts of Nature’s system, we need to know about and observe these laws if we want to be successful and want to survive in the long run.
And the most important laws of Nature are the ones that sustain and govern the general balance and homeostasis that life and optimal development depends on. These laws apply to everything, including to how our own biological body operates and survives. If the general homeostasis and balance are broken, if we leave the boundaries of the optimal parameters we become sick and even die if the balance is not restored.
We know this very well and medicine and other health methods make huge efforts to help us maintain the balance and homeostasis in our bodies.
But when it comes to human society, to the interconnections and cooperation between human beings and nations, somehow we think that we are above the laws of Nature and we can invent and implement our own laws and principles that are designed by and serve our inherently egocentric, subjective and exploitative worldview and calculations.
So human society is basically a sick enclave within Nature that tries to prove that a cancer-like, ruthlessly and exclusively competitive and the excessively overconsuming human system can succeed and survive in Nature and evolution — while breaking the most fundamental laws of Nature life depends on.
As we can see very clearly, we can’t succeed as we are watching everything we ever built going down the drain, while preparing to exterminate ourselves through wars and bringing on ourselves all kinds of crisis situations and calamities.
In short, continuing human survival and human evolution depends on us accepting and keeping Nature’s laws that govern the general balance and homeostasis in Nature’s fully integrated and interdependent system.
