Do science and technology truly make our lives better?

Question from the Internet:

“All things considered, would you say that the world is better off or worse off because of science and technology?”

Obviously, many things have become easier and more pleasant due to science and technology. At the same time, many things have also become much worse and more dangerous because of science and technology.

After all, science and technology are simply tools. And what we achieve through them solely depends on the “user”, on us.

Everything depends on what intentions and for what goals we use science and technology.

And since we use everything with our inherently self-serving, egocentric, individualistic and exploitative nature, we use science and technology mostly to facilitate excessive and selfish overconsumption of resources and energy, while we also use science and technology to control, manipulate, exploit and destroy each other.

Thus instead of focusing on the tools and the external system we are using, we need to shift our focus on our intentions and goals.
