Discussion about perception of reality
Opinion from the Internet about subjective/objective perception:
“Well you are wrong there saying that we can attain objective precaution. What you perceive as objective is as subjective as everything else.
The choice comes down to accepting, for the moment, that what our sensors perceive is the deal we have to work with, and it is more reliable and consistent from moment to moment, person to person, year to year, than idea ideas that have no sensory or consistent interpersonal evidence.
Fact is, or so it seems, all we know and see and think is contained in our brain, and all supposition that it represents some outside reality is just a decent assumption. It is one that neurologists do not indulge themselves with.
Speaking of indulgencies, dreaming up ideas of fully integrated, methodical, selfless, and altruistic utopias are best discussed in the study, over scotch, after which it is best to sleep it all off and go back to work tomorrow. It is sad to think anyone takes this kind of thing seriously.
There is no doubt that if there is something out there, it is quite different than it seems, but our perceptions have cured polio, brought us to the moon, make us all wealthy compared to life prior to our current level of science (or so it seems).
So, what is the basis of your detached view from this egocentric world. Faith? I’m sure it is, because without what we think of as objective data, it is indistinguishable from any other magic belief.”
But you yourself started earlier that what we live in today is also “faith”, faith in our inherently subjective, self-justifying “data”, which is today actually falling apart.
You demonstrate our usual misunderstanding about this subjective, egocentric, self-serving perception we live in. We call what others say illusiory, unreal, while we are absolutely certain in our own opinions, “data”, as if we possessed the objective truth.
The difference today is that we are collectively realizing that we have no idea about the world we live in.
Where is our intellect, science regarding the pandemic, it other global issues like climate change, socio-economic crisis? There is only self-interest, self-service, trying to outdo others nothing else.
We are all caught with our pants down and this is only the start of this unpleasant recognition.
Our top sciences have become theoretical since what they try to research is simply beyond our reach, since we by default distort everything we look at. The great Stephen Hawking is probably the greatest example of this, researching black holes from his wheelchair with his brilliant mind, but without any actual, tangible proof.
And since Einstein this is how physics works since our inherently limited, “Newtonian mind” can’t comprehend a quantum reality.
What we call science is nothing else but faith, “faith within reason”, in our inherently biased, limited and subjective perception.
Religion is “faith below reason” which even discounts what our subjective reason shows us, believing in something nobody actually ever want to prove.
What I am offering is different.
You can call it “faith above reason”, as from our present, limited point of view it is “unreasonable”. But if we use the right, practical, scientific method we can actually “upgrade” our consciousness and perception to arrive to a new, actually, tangibly perceptible reality, observing, attaining the total, objective picture instead of the very small and distorted layer we access today.
It is not detachment from the reality we perceive today, but it is completion, addition. It is like creating a live 3D image from a simple black and white sketch a child created.
Of course I can’t prove this to you, since for proof one first needs to go through the above mentioned upgrade. This is why I don’t want to convince you about anything and I can’t anyway.
But if you want to attain a truly objective perception, if you want proof, you can attain it through the scientific method that is available and open for all. You will stay the proof for yourself, you don’t have to believe to anybody, in anything.
