Covid-19 won’t significantly reduce Human population, but we might wipe ourselves out…

Question from the Internet:

Will the COVID-19 be remembered as a significant in human population reduction 100 years from today?

I do not think Covid-19 will be remembered as a factor that reduced Human population. After all so far there are fewer people who are dying from the virus than from seasonal influenza according to the statistics.

On the other hand, the crisis, turmoil the virus initiated could claim a vast number of Human lives, even wipe Humanity out, if we do not change the usual, blind and instinctive course we have been following through history.

In truth, our present/old Human system was already in perpetual crisis before the virus, sustained through the constant “life-support” of “bailout packages”, pouring trillions of dollars of “virtual money” into a terminally ill system.

Now the virus burst that bubble, pulled the plug. We will probably experience a crisis that is worse than the Great Depression in the 1930s, which crisis lead to the 2nd World War.

In truth leaders simply have no other “historic solution” for such a comprehensive crisis than to incite wars. But in our age, with the weapons we have — even without nukes — such a global war would be devastating.

This is why it is crucially important to understand the root cause behind the helplessly recurring vicious, historic cycles, and behind our own civilization-ending crisis.

Only when we learn and accept that the problem is our own, inherently egoistic, individualistic, and exploitative Nature that drives us towards succeeding, surviving at each other’s expense while depleting Nature’s resources can we start a methodical process to change, upgrade our own operating program, nature.

Then we will become able to build the crucially necessary, mutually responsible, and mutually complementing Human connections, cooperation without which there is no problem-solving ability or collective survival in our globally integrated and interdependent world.
