Question from the Internet:
“Has covid-19 actually helped nature?”
At the time of the first, almost global quarantine there were many reports showing remarkable changes in Nature when humans retreated. Long-time not seen animals reappeared, air quality improved, seismic activity decreases and even certain changes, measurements associated with climate change improved.
Moreover there are those who suggest the pandemic itself was already a response from Nature, warning us that our present Human system - built on reckless, excessive overconsuming, ruthless competition, success, survival at the expense of others and Nature - had become unsustainable.
On the other hand Covid-19 doesn’t really come to help Nature. As we could witness through the quarantine Nature can easily recover, recharge, repair itself when Humans reduce their harmful activities.
It is not Nature that is endangered, we are the species that faces extinction if we don’t change how and for what purpose we live!
Thus Covid-19 is here to help us, to show us that we evolved into a globally integrated and interdependent world, and that we will never be able to return to how we used to live - and it doesn’t matter how stubbornly, defiantly we try.
Covid-19 gave us a chance to rethink, regroup, reconsider who we are, in what system we exist in, what laws, principles define, govern this integral Natural system, and how we can adapt ourselves to them.
The pandemic acts as a first warning about our inevitable demise if we don’t start consciously, purposefully work towards reaching compatibility with Nature. And we are running out of time!
