Changing ourselves is the most difficult!
Opinion from the Internet about the Human ability to learn from mistakes and change:
“Humans are capable of learning from mistakes, correcting things. Planes crash, airline safety becomes a growing concern, planes crash less often. Sometimes we learn from our mistakes unless there is a profit that can be made promoting ignorance of course.”
I agree with you. We can many times learn from mistakes and change things.
Though it seems we are better at learning from certain mistakes, while we keep ignoring others.
We do not seem to learn from the recurring vicious historic cycles, we do not seem to learn from how we reacted to and try to solve the pandemic although it has been going on for more than half a year.
So there are things we can correct, while in other respects we stubbornly repeat the same mistakes, making everything worse.
Why?
We easily recognize and correct mistakes, crimes that do not relate to our own nature. We are happily changing the world, systems, machines, ideologies, and of course other Humans.
But when it comes to changing ourselves we hit a wall. We either refuse to accept the need to change, or we delay the inevitable changes hoping for miracles that things will get better without the necessary “bitter pill” we need to swallow.
Our inherently self-serving, self-justifying nature is ready to do anything, change, destroy, rebuild anything at all, except to change itself.
Now — as we have reached a crucial breaking point, crossroads in our development, where we either self-destruct or we learn to navigate Nature’s integral system — we cannot delay the inevitable any longer: either we start changing ourselves, how we relate to each other and Nature, or we will not survive.
Airplanes might crash less often, but we will surely crash!
