Can Human Beings trust AI?
Question from the Internet:
“Can we trust artificial intelligence?”
AI is a tool. It is a “super-computer” designed, programmed, and used by human beings.
We do not have to trust AI more than we trust our computers or cars, for example.
Everything depends on the program installed, and on the data AI is fed with, and on the goals and intentions, we use AI with and for.
The question is: Can we trust others and ourselves when using such a powerful tool as AI?
And this is our problem.
By default, we cannot trust anybody with such a powerful and potentially destructive tool. According to our inherently self-serving, self-justifying, egocentric, and individualistic nature — which drives us towards excessive overconsumption of anything for our own selfish benefit, and which nature makes us ruthlessly compete and succeed at each other expense — we will use everything we have ever invented and built to control, manipulate, exploit and destroy one another.
With all the clever technology and powerful weapons of mass destruction, we already have enough tools and abilities to destroy the world many times over.
In truth, only a healthy fear and the mutual deterrent based on not fully knowing what weapons and abilities our enemies have restrains us from going all out to use everything we built and gathered to destroy one another.
In the meantime, since we constantly focus on how to gain the upper hand in this “cold war” we live in to finally destroy everything and everybody, we are unable to build true, sustainable, mutually responsible, and mutually complementing cooperation and coexistence a single species in nature should have.
As a result, we are at the mercy of nature’s destructive forces, and we are desperately helpless against the mounting global problems that are now threatening our short and long-term survival.
If we were able to rise above our inherent nature and exist and act against our destructive and cancer-like human egos, we could even use AI for positive, constructive, and collectively beneficial goals and purposes.
Thus, everything depends on us. Everything depends on how we relate to each other and nature and with what purpose and intention we use our lives and all the tools we have built.
