Can AI help in easing human suffering?
Question from the Internet:
“How would a super, artificial intelligence phase out biological human suffering?”
First of all, our suffering is not biological.
We are emotional beings, and everything we experience and perceive is through our emotions. Everything else is the result of our emotional states.
I can tell you, as an orthopedic surgeon with almost 30 years of practice, that most — if not all — of our “medical conditions,” even the most “physical or biological looking ones, are “psychosomatic.”
This means that it is our emotional and psychological state that influences our physical and biological body and its state.
One of the greatest problems and failures of “modern medicine” is — beyond exploiting it for profit or using it as a weapon — that we look at our biological body as a machine that needs servicing like a car or a computer, while we completely disregard the emotional and psychological element in our “being” which is the primary element.
And it is not only in medicine that we forget what makes us “human beings.”
Our whole lifestyle and the way society works became “inhumane,” unemotional, robotic, and artificial.
We reduce life to a certain set of protocols, statistics, and quantitative measurements. We came to believe that life is simply about producing and consuming certain products, accumulating certain possessions and wealth, and obtaining certain positions of control and exploitation over others.
We even believe that we can express emotions through quantitative measures; we think we can buy or purchase love and happiness, or we can force others to love us or to be happy physically and artificially.
We came to such an unemotional and artificial stage of human evolution that we consider ourselves as simple “robots” or “androids,” and now we worship — or fear — artificial intelligence as a “supreme being” that can control us.
In truth, as long as we forget and give up what our essence is, which is our emotional capability and our “truly Human” consciousness, which is 100% emotional, we are inferior to AI and will gradually hand over our life to AI while we become the fat, lazy and totally aimless humanoid consumers depicted in the cartoon “WALL-E.”
Humanity is suffering today because we do not know what it means to be “Human.”
The vast majority of our “physical” illnesses come from the “inhumane” lifestyle we are pursuing. But the major problem we suffer from is the general emptiness, depression, and subsequent abuse of addictive substances — or succumbing to the dumbing and mesmerizing 24/7 brainwash we receive from the media and entertainment — which is the result of losing our “humanity” and living a life that is totally devoid of any “Human” goal or purpose.
This is most striking and obvious in Western societies, but since the whole world covets the West, this all-encompassing human disease and suffering will reach everyone.
If we want to phase out this all-encompassing human suffering, we will need to relearn what it means to be Human beings.
We need to learn and practice to experience life through the strong and conflicting emotions that arise from close and committed mutual human relationships. This is very difficult since today, we use any excuse and opportunity to distance ourselves from each other. We became afraid of feeling the conflicting emotions that arise from our inherently egoistic, selfish, and individualistic nature.
But we have no choice.
If we want to become “truly Human,” and we want to continue our “human survival,” then we will have to learn to recognize our inherently exploitative and hateful nature towards others and then also learn and practice how we can develop “true love” and build true mutual connections above and against our inherent nature.
In this, artificial intelligence cannot help us.
AI can help us secure our basic, natural, and comfortable necessities — even this is something we will have to learn — while we focus on rebuilding our “emotional humanity” and build nature-like, mutually responsible, and mutually complementing integration between us on a global scale. This way, we will become like healthy cells in a single, living Human organism and elevate ourselves to a qualitatively much higher level of collective existence.
This is when our suffering — including physical, mental, psychological, individual, and collective — will be “phased out.”
And this is also because this mutually integrated and mutually integrated Human entity is what nature’s system and evolution’s deterministic plan wants to ‘see” also. And the moment we start aligning ourselves with what nature’s system and evolution “expect” from us, we will also find the whole natural system assisting our efforts and healing our problems.
This is not some dream, utopia, mysticism, or science fiction script. This is all based on nature’s strict and unchanging laws and evolution’s relentless and deterministic plan.
