Are we heading in the right direction?!
Question from the Internet:
“A majority (55%) of the public say they are pessimistic about the direction of the country. Are you?”
This brings up many additional questions.
For example, I assume you speak about the US, but the country actually does not matter. We have evolved into such a globally integrated and interdependent world, that it does not matter what country, who we speak about. Humanity as a single entity is heading in a certain direction and nobody can escape this.
The next question is about the “direction” itself. How can we decide, evaluate what direction we are going? Do we have an actual goal, a purpose we can measure ourselves against?
At the moment I do not see any such overall goal, purpose anywhere. We are only looking at the next big sporting event, the next iPhone, or similar product release, we just want the pandemic to end so we can return to “normal” — although we have no idea what that was and it was definitely not “normal”. So we just want the next holiday to come, or the next weekend at least we can relax, party, drink ourselves to oblivion or take a few more drugs so we do not need to think about anything.
Some might still look forward to children, grandchildren achieving certain milestones and we are not looking forward to death at the end.
But does humanity, in general, have any direction, plan, goal, or purpose? Why do we actually live, why are we called Human, is there any difference between us and apes?!
At the moment we can’t answer any of these questions as we simply sink into our mindless, day-to-day life in this empty, consumerist Matrix, where the instinctive ruthless competition, excessive overconsumption makes us like cancer and now we even mindlessly sleepwalk into a nuclear World War, and if we do not kill each, then the global problems we cannot solve will kill us.
So do we have any direction, is it a good direction?
Please!
We do not even know who we are, what system we exist in, and what we are supposed to do with our lives! Let us explore some of the questions above and then perhaps we can discuss the direction and whether it is a good one or a bad one!
