Are there any selfless leaders truly caring for their nation?

Question from the Internet:

“How can we be sure that the leaders we are electing are selfless and that they care for our needs and welfare?”

I would approach it differently. At present, we can be 100% certain that they are neither selfless nor are they interested in our needs and welfare.

And it is not even their fault.

We are all born with an inherently self-serving, self-justifying, subjective and egocentric nature. Those who end up at the peak of the pyramid structure of human society — the leaders and those controlling and paying them — are the most selfish, egoistic and exploitative among us all.

There is nothing we can do about this.

As long as we blindly follow our inherent nature and continue building our ideologies, philosophies, structures and our laws based on this inherent nature, it does not matter who we elect, it would not even matter if we ourselves occupied those leading positions. The end result will always be the same.

Only when we, first of all, recognize our inherent nature behind all the failures, crisis situations and conflicts engulfing the world and we all reach an honest need and willingness to change ourselves — instead of blaming and correcting others — then we can build a different human society with different leaders.
