Are there any problems to solve?
Question from the Internet:
“Why do we continue to believe that the world’s situations ought to be solved? What is that really?”
On one hand more and more people feel, see that if we do not “solve” our problems, if we do not change the world and continue forward the way we are today, we will encounter such conflicts, problems, disasters, wars that might wipe our species out.
After all the global problems we can’t even comprehend, discuss, let alone solve are growing. The pandemic and our total inability even to agree on things about climate change show very sharply that we are desperately helpless in handling things that realistically threaten our lives, survival.
Most people still ignore this, close their eyes, put their heads in the sand, just “want to return to normal” whatever that means. But the problems cannot be ignored as in many places the “ground is already burning under our feet”.
On the other hand, in order to solve problems, one needs to identify, accept the root cause. Without the right diagnosis, there is no remedy. And this is where our main difficulty arises.
The moment we just “get a sniff” of the root cause of all our problems, we hysterically, stubbornly refuse to go any further and close our eyes, shut down our minds even more.
The root cause of all our problems, the single cause why our continuing survival is in question, is our inherently self-serving, self-justifying, egocentric, and individualistic nature, that drives us towards insatiable, excessive overconsumption, accumulating profit,, resources for ourselves, ruthlessly competing, succeeding at the expense of each other and Nature.
And recognizing our responsibility, the notion of changing ourselves is the most revolting, most unacceptable thing our ego can encounter, hear about. Thus we refuse to get any closer to the truth and we get further and further away from true solutions.
We are ready to change, manipulate, correct, destroy and kill anything and anybody, we are ready to endure inhuman suffering — but we would never consider accepting our responsibility and the need to change ourselves.
Still, there is a deep, visceral survival reflex in us, that kicks in at the threshold of destruction when we are already starting into the abyss that is ready to swallow us.
If we are willing to go to that distance and wait until truly intolerable suffering will convince us about the need to change ourselves, most of humanity will die and only a handful of people will go through the necessary self-changes, self-correction, self-upgrade that will facilitate the continuing development, survival of our species — adapted to Nature’s fully integrated, lawful system.
There is another option of course since human beings have a unique intellect, that is capable of critical self-assessment and initiating self-change. But in order to go towards this wise, positive path of development at least a unique, critical minority of sensitive, willing people need to accept the only way towards survival — before the destruction, intolerable blows start.
This is where we stand today. Most of humanity is on the opinion of ‘let’s sit and wait and most important let’s return to “normal”!’. In their opinion there are no problems to solve, there is no threat, especially if solving, changing anything involves changing ourselves, changing our lives.
In the meantime, that critical, small, sensitive minority is gathering, growing in numbers, and studying the method of survival. Everything else depends on how quickly and effectively this minority can learn and implement the extremely difficult task that fell on their shoulders…
