About free choice…

An opinion from the Internet:

“You have a right to your opinion about people being the product of their environment, but I’m a little upset with it.

The problem I have with it is that you seem to be saying that the only choice individuals have is to choose what group to be part of. The ultimate choice is to not join in any of it or to even fight against it.

I do get that none of us is truly a “tabula rasa”, but there’s still plenty of room for plenty of choices, and they don’t all end with an individual joining up with any “cause”.”

I fully understand that you are upset. “My opinion” — which is actually not my opinion at all, but it is how Nature’s laws determine it and unique empirical natural scientists describe it — goes against everything we know, we learn, we believe.

Our ego tells us we are independent and can do whatever we want, this is what we learn and this is what society — especially Western society and the “American Dream” — tells, suggests to us incessantly.

But this is not how Nature’s fully integrated system works, and contrary to popular opinion we are not outside of, above Nature, we are just as integral parts as everything else in Nature. We are actually individual cells in a single, integrated organism — humanity — which is also an integrated part of Nature. This is one of the main message of the pandemic and other increasing global problems try to show us.

My personal state, fate is inadvertently interlocked with the state, fate of others, regardless of what I think or do, irrelevant of my consent.

I did not say to join any group with any “cause”. I said that we have a choice and that choice is which group we join, more precisely in which group we want to become active, mutually contributing, member, driving force — according to the values, goals, aspirations of the group we decide to follow, accept.

After all, as we would see if we examined it more closely, even the groups, environments we end up in is outside of our personal choice, all kinds of seemingly random circumstances, events, conditions “guide us” without any personal choices.

Again, I fully understand if this upsets you, if your “gut feelings” outright reject this, since we are brainwashed to believe as if we had free choice and we can shape our own fate (while at the same time, even if we remain on the superficial level, everything we think and do, is already manipulated by the modern “Matrix” of each and every human society).

You do not have to accept anything I say, I just tell you how unique, empirical natural scientists describe who we are and what chances we have, what actions we can do to truly realize, determine fulfill ourselves.

You can even forget what I wrote, and perhaps one day when our total interdependence becomes even sharper, clearer, and inescapable than it is now, you will remember it. You will remember and accept that in order to fully express, realize ourselves, to get to know who we can become, we need to find, and become active, mutually contributing member in the right “incubator” which can create, give birth to the best possible “self”, “human being” I can become.
